Iowa Unplugged

Location: Decorah, Iowa (2011) On a road trip with my sister and cousins, I caught this view from the passenger window of our van and squealed for the driver to "Pull over!" She complied. I loved what I saw—in the foreground, an abandoned outbuilding, and in the background, two horses that turned their heads and made eye contact with me. Without the horses, this image would be just another bucolic still life. With the horses, the image is alive, and a contrast in Now and Then.
