Baltimore Washington Monument
This monument dedicated to George Washington pre-dates the Washington Monument in Washington, DC, by 50 years. The cornerstone was laid on July 4, 1815. There are 227 marble steps to take you to the top, which is 178 feet 8 inches high. The monument was designed by architect Robert Mills, who would also later design the taller DC monument. Closed in 2010, it received a $6.5 million restoration and reopened in 2015.
I am a 74-year-old widow. I have 2 beautiful daughters, three wonderful grandchildren, and three great-grandsons. I enjoy looking at the stunning architecture in Baltimore City and our stunning monuments. I love the way the clouds framed the monument, it just made it jump out of the photo.
